This week is birthday week for our family. Our two elder daughters were born the first week of March, 21 and 19 years ago respectively. It dawned on me the other day that with each birth I experienced significant spiritual growth within the first year of their birthdays. Twenty-one years ago I returned to the church to serve. Nineteen years ago I completely changed careers to pursue ministry full-time. Each spiritual birth, like the births of my daughters, was cast in a birth narrative of peace, hope, joy, and love, much like the Advent of Christ.
As you journey through Lent, think about what spiritual births mark your journey. How have you been changed because of newness, like a child's birth, in your life?
