Surrender to Love

We showed the video "Surrender to Love" featuring Gary Best, National Director for the Association of Vineyard Churches, at the beginning of services this past weekend, and his analogy comparing love to water really resonated with some people.

"Water... doesn't want to stay where it is... It's always searching around the edges to see if there's an escape route. Where does it want to get to? It wants to get to the lowest place and the farthest place."

Way-FM and Wally

While Jason and I lived in Colorado, we often found ourselves listening to Way-FM pretty much whenever we were in the car (which was a lot because we were always heading to Boulder or the mountains!). And we not only enjoyed the music, but we particularly enjoyed one of their radio hosts by the name of Wally. I'm guessing many of you have heard him but for some reason we just really found this guy to be entertaining. Whether he was opening up about his own testimony, goofing off with a Christian artist in the studio, or heatedly debating philosophy, we could relate to his words. When we moved away from Colorado, I was quite sad that my favorite radio personality wasn't going with me...until I realized that Way-FM (and Wally!) have a station in Indiana! So in honor of Way-FM and Wally - I'm posting this video. A little background information on it: Wally and Britt Nichole wrote a song about Francesca Battistelli being married. That led to misunderstanding, which had to be taken care of. See the video below of what happened when Francesca worked it out with Wally and wrote her own song about him.




Way-FM's mission is to encourage youth and adults in their Christian lives and to introduce non-believers to Christ.

Happy New Year, Friends!

Enjoy this issue of In Step! As this new year begins, I find myself resolving to spend more time in God's Word and in prayer...and finding new ways to nurture this goal. As you begin your new year, I encourage you to consider taking advantage of all that BUMC offers to help keep you on track spiritually. Some ideas include:

1. Sign up for daily scripture texts (find out more here)
2. Join a small group (peruse your options here)
3. Get involved in one of our ministries (Music, Outreach, Youth, Children, etc.)

If we all take a moment to evaluate where we are in our relationship with God, and choose to do something new this year to nurture that relationship, I'm pretty certain that 2010 will be our best year yet! May God's presence be fully apparent to you today - know that He is with you even (and especially!) through the though moments.

Have you heard about the latest way that God is reaching hearts at BUMC? If you've been in services the past couple of weeks, you've heard Pastor Ken talk about how you can receive a daily scripture sent to you via text message if you choose to opt-in. This newest ministry started humbly enough after Shereen Fink was moved to reach out to her niece by texting her a daily scripture just to let her know she was thinking of her. Her niece in turn began forwarding the texts to co-workers. Once Ken got wind of Shereen's ministry he asked if he could open it up to the congregation, and we have already been overwhelmed and humbled by the feedback from people who say, "This is just what I needed today. Thank you!"

John 1:9-14
9The true light that gives light to every man was coming into the world.

10He was in the world, and though the world was made through him, the world did not recognize him. 11He came to that which was his own, but his own did not receive him. 12Yet to all who received him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God— 13children born not of natural descent, nor of human decision or a husband's will, but born of God.

14The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the One and Only, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth.
